DENVER ZOO OFFERS FREE ADMISSIONS AND TOURS FOR VETERANS NOV. 11 & 12

Event Initiated by Veteran to Honor a New Generation

To honor veterans this upcoming holiday, Denver Zoo will offer free admission to veterans, and discounted admission of $6 for their family members on November 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The zoo is also offering free guided tours for these honored guests. Veterans must present a valid ID or proof of service to be eligible for this special offer and registration is required for tours.

"This event was proposed by a World War II veteran who now volunteers at Denver Zoo. We are very excited to offer this program to honor veterans for the service they have given to our country. We owe them so much," says Denver Zoo Director of Public Programs Brad Parks.

Tours are 90 minutes in length and are designed to engage families of veterans in a fun-filled day together exploring Denver Zoo's public areas. There is no additional cost for these tours. Tour times on both days are 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Registration for tours is required, and reservations must be made by noon on Saturday, November 10, 2012. To register, please call 720-337-1491 and leave your name, phone number, the planned day of your visit (Sunday, November 11 or Monday, November 12), your preferred tour time, the number of people in your group and their ages. Guides will do their best to craft tours that fit the needs of each group which will visit only the public areas of the zoo.

For veterans who schedule a tour, it is recommended they arrive at the zoo at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled tour time. Tours will meet at the thatched umbrella in front of the main yard in Predator Ridge, just inside the main entrance of the zoo, which will be marked with a U.S. flag.

Veterans are asked to check in at the Guest Relations building on the west side of the entrance plaza to purchase reduced-price admission tickets for their families.

Veterans are encouraged, but not required, to wear their uniform.

Red Apple Scholarships for family admission fees are available based on need. Visit the zoo's website and download the application form at www.denverzoo.org/education/red_apple.html . Follow the directions online and return attention to: Director of Public Programs - Education and Volunteers Services Department.
