Backstage Experience Junior Encounter

A hands-on experience for animal enthusiasts of all ages

Meet members of our charismatic animal ambassadors during this bite-sized Up-Close Animal Encounter – perfect for our youngest guests! During this private tour, you’ll get face-to-face with some of our animal ambassadors, like an anteater or a tortoise. There are over 90 animals for the zookeepers to choose from, so you never know who you're going to meet.  Spend time with our animal care staff as they show you what it takes to care for some of the animals that call Denver Zoo home. Backstage Experience Junior is an interactive and hands-on tour that’s great for all ages.

What to wear

Closed-toed shoes, a comfortable shirt and pants or shorts. Dress for the weather! Portions of the tour will be held outside regardless of weather conditions.

What to bring

Your signed confirmation sheet and a camera (photo opportunities will be provided).

Restrictions

  • This experience is open to guests of all ages. Please purchase tickets for participants age 3 and up.
  • Program fee does not include admission to Denver Zoo. Admission tickets must be purchased separately.
  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paid participant that is 16 years of age or older.
  • Experience will occur rain or shine.
  • You must check in inside the Boettcher Welcome Center 15 minutes prior to the start time of your experience.
  • All participants MUST have a paid ticket to take part in the encounter. Guests who have not purchased tickets will NOT be permitted to accompany paid participants for any part of the experience.
  • This encounter is not recommended for guests with airborne nut allergies. Call for more information.
  • There is limited access for service animals in the program area. Please call 720-337-1400 to confirm.

Reschedule Fee

  • Between 5 and 14 business days from your scheduled program date: $15.00 transfer fee per ticket.
  • Less than 5 days before the encounter, changes are not permitted and payment is non-refundable. A fee of 100% will be charged for a missed encounter.

Cancellation Fee

  • Between 5 and 14 business days from your scheduled program date: 50% of total program cost.
  • Less than 5 days before the encounter, changes are not permitted and payment is non-refundable. A fee of 100% will be charged for a missed encounter.
  • Guests under 16 must be accompanied by a paid participant that is 16 years of age or older.
