Finishing Touches Being Installed As Asian Tropics nears the final phases of construction some areas receive their final touches. A 2,500-pound fiberglass sculpture of rhinos and elephants has been installed in the east entryway to Asian Tropics and a nearby donor wall has been installed under Peter and Ella's Crossing, a 17-foot animal transfer bridge that is a gift from the Bardsley Foundation. Endangered Red-Crowned Crane Chick Hatches – Denver Zoo recently welcomed an endangered red-crowned crane chick. The chick, which hatched June 19, is a male and has been named Pinion. This is the first hatch of this species at Denver Zoo and is most likely the product of artificial insemination. Visitors can see the chick now with its parents, Hochi and Sadie, at the zoo's Nurture Trail. Learn more.

 

Zoo Hires Two Area Supervisors in Animal Department – Michael Stern joins Denver Zoo's team as Primate Area Supervisor and Rebecca McCloskey has been promoted to Area Supervisor of Asian Tropics. Rebecca has been with Denver Zoo since 2009, working as a zookeeper in the Predator Ridge exhibit. Michael started in April and his duties include ensuring the zoo's 125 primates receive the best care by coordinating with zookeepers, veterinarians and maintenance staff. Learn more.

Josh Blue Performs at Comedy Night – Laugh until you're blue in the face at the 11th annual Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Association of Zookeepers Comedy Night. Denver comedian and zoo donor Josh Blue headlines the Thursday, August 18 show at Denver Zoo. Admission includes hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, a silent auction, live auction and a night of comedy.
