Zookeeper Headed to Canada for Polar Bear Camp – Zookeeper Sue Peters will start a week-long trek to the tundra near Churchill, Manitoba, Canada, on October 2 for the Keeper Leadership Camp sponsored by Polar Bears International (PBI), the world's leading polar bear conservation group. Denver Zoo, which is part of PBI's network of Arctic Ambassador Center zoos, selected Peters based on her past outreach and community involvement. Birdkeeper Hufford Studies Flamingos in Kenya – Denver Zoo Birdkeeper Brittney Hufford is helping create a long-term flamingo project for Denver Zoo as part of her recent 18-day conservation trip to the 48,000-acre Soysambu Conservancy in Kenya. Hufford took water samples with a colleague from Lake Elementaita, 80 miles northwest of Nairobi, Kenya's capital. She also explored the Soysambu Research Center and networked with locals. Hufford also learned how thousands of the birds land on lakes where the surface temperature is 95 degrees.
