Komodo Dragon

Komodo Dragons Popular with Zoo Guests – Komodo dragons are a popular animal at Denver Zoo and successful breeders here as well! Denver Zoo is the only zoo to hatch Komodo dragons on three different occasions, including in October 2010 when zoo keepers welcomed six hatchlings (two males and four females). They aren't quite large enough to be in the same habitat as the three adult males yet, though. Komodo dragons are the world's largest species of lizard, but unfortunately they are classified as an endangered species. They can grow to be 10 feet long and weigh up to 176 pounds. They reside on five Indonesian islands: Komodo, Flores, Rinca, Gila Montang and Gila Dasami. You can see all of our Komodo dragons in Tropical Discovery. Learn more.
