Female Red Panda Comes to Denver Zoo – There's a new red panda now calling Denver Zoo home. Daisy, a 5-year-old female, recently arrived from Potter Park Zoo in Lansing, Mich. Daisy arrived under the recommendation of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP) and hopefully will be paired with another male soon. Zoos participate in SSPs to ensure healthy populations and genetic diversity among animals. She spent the holidays behind-the-scenes, but now visitors can see her exploring her new outdoor habitat. Learn more about her here.
Four Clouded Leopards for Toyota Elephant Passage – You'll have to wait a little longer to "spot" our four other new arrivals, though. Four clouded leopards just pawed their way into Toyota Elephant Passage. They are 10-year-old females Mattie and Tenchi and male and female cubs Taji and Lisu, both less than a year old. The cubs will live separately from the older cats as they are a breeding pair and won't be interested in sharing space with other cats as they grow. Visitors can see the leopards in their two pairs in Toyota Elephant Passage once it opens to the public on June 1. Learn more about them here.
