Toyota Elephant Passage - Groucho in elephant yard
Elephant Explore Yards – Denver Zoo's Asian elephants began exploring their outdoor yards this week in the new Toyota Elephant Passage exhibit. The elephants will rotate though the five yards along with greater one-horned rhinos and Malayan tapirs. Including swimming areas, their outdoor space will total nearly 90,000 square feet to enjoy. The four elephants are also getting used to the more than 12,000 square feet inside the Clayton F. Freiheit Elephant House. The building is designed for creature comforts with a unique system which enables zookeepers to change the flooring material inside the building to ensure the best in foot care for these large pachyderms. Toyota Elephant Passage opens to the public on June 1. Watch video of the elephants exploring their yards here.
