Lemurs Move Back Onto Island – Denver Zoo's ring-tailed and red ruffed lemurs just moved back onto their island for the season. The two species will alternate days on the island. They were all very excited to explore their space again and establish their favorite spots to hang out. This will be the first full season on the island for the red ruffed lemur quadruplets born last March. Guests will see all the lemurs jumping around, sunbathing and snacking on trees. There are about 100 species of lemurs alive today and they all live on the island of Madagascar. Watch video of the ring-tailed lemurs on their island here.
Toyota Elephant Passage Greener with Independent Systems – One of the many ways Toyota Elephant Passage will go green is simply by turning on systems only as they are needed. Lighting, heating and cooling systems will all be controlled independently for each small area in the new exhibit. This enables a worker to turn on a task light in the specific area they are working, rather than having to turn on lights to the entire building. Similarly a small section's temperature can be changed without using more energy to change the temperature of an entire facility. Teacher Workshop Connects Students to Animals – Teachers: Discover how our new exhibit, Toyota Elephant Passage, can help your students learn about endangered animals and conservation. We'll be hosting an all-day teacher workshop on Saturday, April 28 titled "Toyota Elephant Passage: Connecting Students to a Bio-diverse Ecosystem." This workshop will show teachers how to use the exhibit as a platform to learn about animals such as Asian elephants, greater one-horned Indian rhinos and clouded leopards and how the zoo is helping these species both inside the zoo and in the wild. For teachers of PreK to Grade 12. Programming based on Colorado state academic standards. All workshop participants receive graduate-level re-licensure credit through the Colorado School of Mines.
