Rare Amur Leopard Birth at Denver Zoo – Denver Zoo is celebrating the birth of an Amur leopard cub, born April 25. The Amur leopard is considered critically endangered with fewer than 40 animals remaining in the wild. The young male, named Makar, is the first birth of his species at Denver Zoo since 1996. What's Better than Green? Platinum! – Denver Zoo's Toyota Elephant Passage exhibit has achieved LEED® certification at the platinum level! This is the highest level issued by the U.S. Green Building Certification Institute. It becomes the first large animal exhibit complex in the country to achieve platinum certification and includes the entire 10-acre complex and more than 10 major buildings. The achievement is no small feat! The zoo reached its goal with the use of renewable energy, recycled water, natural daylight and ventilation, efficient heating and cooling systems and other green design and construction practices.
