Baby Lesser kudu
Red Panda Pair Get Acquainted - Just in time to celebrate Valentine's Day, Denver Zoo welcomes Chewbacca, a six-year-old red panda from Detroit Zoo, to live with resident six-year-old red panda Daisy. The two have been paired under the recommendation of the Species Survival Plan, which ensures healthy populations of genetic diversity among zoo animals. Denver Zoo's last breeding pair, He-Ping and Sophia gave birth to six cubs between 2008 and 2009. Red pandas don't mind the cool winter weather, so stop by and you might get to see Daisy and Chewbacca on exhibit.

Cinereous Vulture

Staff Visit South Korea to Study Cinereous Vultures - In an effort to learn more about the travel habits of cinereous vultures and the dangers they face, Conservation Veterinary Coordinator Dr. David Kenny traveled to South Korea this month. In cooperation with local researchers, Kenny helped place GPS transmitters on young birds that will collect information about where they fly during their migration between Mongolia and South Korea. Kenny also collected blood samples to measure levels of lead the vultures have been exposed to by consuming animals killed by lead ammunition. Kenny's efforts will help facilitate collaboration between Korean and Mongolian conservation efforts for vultures. Learn more about the zoo’s conservation projects here.
