Gorillas Have Room with a New View - Visitors of the zoo's Great Apes building will get to see gorillas and zookeepers interact like never before. Recently a solid door separating the keepers and gorillas in the gorilla day room was replaced with a steel mesh door. This will allow the public to see the training and relationship building that happens between the massive apes and their keepers, which previously only happened behind-the-scenes. These training sessions help the keepers make sure the apes stay healthy by preparing the animals for important health screenings, like ultrasounds or blood draws. Watch a video of a gorilla getting his heart checkup here.

Garrett has been invited to the Association of Zoos' and Aquariums mid-year conference in Charleston, SC in April where he will present Denver Zoo's advances in breeding and incubating Egyptian plovers in captivity at the shorebird workshop.
