Flying Foxes Prepared for Travel - Toyota Elephant Passage's flying foxes have been out of public view for a while and will soon travel back to Florida. They were a new species to Denver Zoo, and while we do our best in the design phase of a new exhibit, we realized that the exhibit doesn't currently allow us to meet the needs for this giant fruit bat species. We have decided that it is in their best interest to send them back to the Lubee Bat Conservancy in Florida, where they came from originally. In the mean time, we are trying to identify the best species to fill the empty space, and don't know just yet what or when that decision will be made. Unfortunately, the flying foxes will not be available for the public to see before they leave, so instead we invite you to watch this recent video of them.

Make Plans for Creative Play at the Zoo -
Two new Goddard Activity Maps were recently introduced at Denver Zoo and feature fun activities for families with children ages one to six-years-old. Denver Zoo and The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development partnered to create these itineraries that encourage learning through play. Guests can pick up a map at either Northern Shores or Tropical Discovery to discover play-based activities to enjoy during their next visit to the zoo. Learn more and download the previous maps from Predator Ridge and Toyota Elephant Passage.
Safari Mini-Camps Return - The first Safari Mini-Camp of the 2013-2014 school year is "Friends and Food" on Monday, October 14. This mini-camp is open to kids Pre-K through 5th Grade and will explore the bond between animal friends and the relationship of predators and prey. Campers will enjoy animal encounters, special zoo experiences, active tours, games and creative activities. Learn more and register here.
Reminder: Zoo Closes Early on September 13 -
Denver Zoo will close at noon on September 13 for preparations for Brew At The Zoo. With 40 local breweries and 20 restaurants getting set up for the annual fundraiser for the zoo's Red Apple Scholarship Fund, there will be a lot of work getting everything ready for the big night. If you plan on visiting the zoo that day, please excuse our mess as we get set up for a fantastic evening event!
