August 17, 2011 It rained off and on all night! We found a couple of ornate box turtles in the study area today so we were able to process them. They were the first turtles to become part of the study. We also saw two badgers while we were driving around today! And we found a glossy snake and a bull snake in the road, we caught them and were able to hold them and take some great pictures. We also went road hunting tonight, which I found out is where you drive slowly down the road at night looking for herptiles and then once you find one everyone jumps out of the car to look at it and to get it off the road before the next car comes. It was a fantastic trip, as we were driving out it started raining so by the time it got dark a ton of amphibians were out on the road. We saw two different species of spade foot frog, an adult and a juvenile tiger salamander. We were out late and I am going to be tired tomorrow but it was lots of fun and we found so many interesting things.

August 18, 2011 We checked the arrays at last gulch before packing up today. And we found many different species. Another box turtle, a rattlesnake, as well as a texas horned lizard, and a newly hatched racer snake. The racer was about pencil width, it was very exciting that we were able to find something that small! After we closed up the arrays we headed back to the house to clean up and head back home. I am excited that I will be back down here next week. Every time I come down here I see even more interesting creatures.
