Today is our first day of work. I got up at 5:30am-ish. I was the first one up. I got to watch the sunrise and it was BEAUTIFUL! After everyone else was up and we had all eaten breakfast, we packed up and headed out. We drove down the road for the first set of traps. There is a locked gate to get into where you need to go so bring the keys, there is a spare
but it doesn’t work so we have to make sure to bring the original! |

Anyways, we set up the traps in the first section which is actually #3 (it is the closest one off the highway with the lock on the gate.) Then we set, the other three sections (#1 is by the dead tree that was struck by lightning, #2 is the one farthest from the others, #4 is the one closest to the beaver dam). We found almost a whole bison skeleton, and part of a coyote. By the way, each section is called an array.
After setting up the arrays we went for a hike through the stream. We found a garner snake, baby woodhouse toads, and leopard frogs. The hike was really fun and we caught lots of animals but the down-side was that the pond was full of leeches!

Today we checked our traps for the first time, but didn’t catch anything except giant grasshoppers and beetles. Today we did catch all kinds of things like fence lizards and ever a tiger salamander. I was the first teen to catch a lizard using one. |
