IDEA WILD helps turn the words “Think globally, act locally” into real and effective actions by empowering individuals around the world with the tools and resources they need to learn about, conserve, and protect their local wildlife and environments.
Combining funds and products donated by many supporters, IDEA WILD has provided equipment and logistical support for over 1,500 projects in 63 countries. The impact of this work is global. Denver Zoo supports IDEA WILD through financial contributions, and Dr. Richard Reading (DZF) serves on the organization’s Advisory Board.
IDEA WILD supports numerous causes, such as:
Researchers from FANAMBY, a nonprofit organization in Madagascar, needed a compass, backpack, GPS, and tent to map out the range of the rare golden-crowned sifaka. The surveys they conducted with this equipment led to recognition and legal protection of the habitat of this endangered lemur in Madagascar’s National Network of Protected Areas. They continue to work to develop sustainable resource uses to help the local people and lemurs to coexist.
Peace Corps volunteer Ryan Kelley needed an LCD projector for use by instructors in an Environmental Conservation and Management Education Program offered to exceptional Malagasy students. Graduates of the program are sure to be among the future natural resource managers, conservationists, and biologists of Madagascar.
