CONSERVATION AT THE ZOO

As an active member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), Denver Zoo is working with other zoos and aquariums to promote awareness about threats to bats. The United Nations Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and the Agreement on the Conservation of Populations of European Bats (EUROBATS) have joined together to celebrate the Year of the Bat. To find out more visit the official site. For information on how Denver Zoo promotes biodiversity conservation across the globe, see our Current Projects List.

At Denver Zoo, conservation is a part of everything we do! We pride ourselves on being the greenest zoo in the country and work hard to make all aspects of our daily operations sustainable—from waste reduction to alternative transportation for our employees.  We also work with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) to manage zoo populations through voluntary programs like Species Survival Plan, a breeding program that facilitates the survival of many species by keeping zoo populations healthy and abundant. Additionally, Denver Zoo participates in conservation and research projects at the Zoo. To learn more, please click the links on the left.
