STARSHIP FEATURING MICKEY THOMAS TO HEADLINE DO AT THE ZOO - Band Will Provide Musical Entertainment at Denver Zoo Fundraising Gala June 19, 2008

Popular 80s and 90s band, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, will be performing at Denver Zoo’s annual fundraising gala Do At The Zoo on June 19. The event, which will feature food from more than 45 of Denver’s finest restaurants, will raise funds for Asian Tropics, a 10-acre exhibit devoted to highly-endangered Asian species including elephants, Indian rhinos and Malayan tapirs.

Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled Starship through the decades of the 80s and 90s. In 1979, Mickey joined Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist, after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Supported by Mickey’s powerful vocals, Jefferson Starship immediately scored a number one hit with “Jane.” With this new sound and powerful new vocals, the group was renamed Starship and continued to record an amazing string of hits including “No Way Out,” “We Built This City,” “Sara,” and an Oscar Nomination for the number one hit song “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now" from the movie “Mannequin.” Other top hits include “Find Your Way Back,” “Stranger,” “Laying It On The Line,” and “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over.”

Do At The Zoo has been Denver’s most popular summer fundraising gala for 18 years raising funds for improving animal habitats and worldwide conservation. This year’s event themed Silk & Spice: a night of celebration, preservation and jubilation benefiting Asian elephants, will be bigger and better than ever before! Guests can dine on exotic dishes from around the city while toasting spirits from around the world. Attire is tropical chic (cocktail attire with a tropical twist) and tickets can be purchased online at www.denverzoo.org.

Anticipated to raise more than $500,000 for Asian Tropics, all funds raised at Do at the Zoo will be matched dollar for dollar by Zoo Improvement Bond funds thereby doubling the effect of each ticket sold and contribution made.
