A charitable gift annuity is a great way to secure a steady, fixed stream of income for life while conserving wildlife for future generations. Gift annuities are simple to establish - just transfer cash, stock or mutual fund shares to Denver Zoo and, in exchange, you will receive a fixed annuity for life (you must be 50 or older and contribute a minimum gift of $5,000).
The annuity rate is determined by the
age(s) of the beneficiaries when the gift is established. Current rates are as follows:
Age Rate
50 4.4%
55 4.8%
60 5.0%
65 5.3%
70 5.7%
75 6.3%
80 7.1%
85 8.1%
90 9.5% |

How it works:

Benefits
- income for life
- higher returns than certificates of deposit
- up-front charitable deduction for a portion of your gift
- partially tax-free payments
- and, most important, protection of wildlife for future generations
Deferred Gift Annuity – great retirement planning
If you want to begin receiving annuity income at a later date, or if you are under age 50, you can establish a deferred gift annuity. Some people like the idea of making a gift now when their earnings may be higher with payments to begin at a future date, for example at retirement. The length of deferment and your age when payments begin determine your rate - the longer you defer payments, the higher your rate. You still will receive a charitable deduction in the year the gift is made.
Sample rates for individuals 50 – 60 with 5 and 10 year payment deferrals:
Age Now 5 Year Deferral 10 Year Deferral
50 5.8% 7.5%
55 6.1% 7.9%
60 6.5% 8.5% |
