 A charitable remainder trust combines charitable giving with other financial goals, including income for life or for a term of years. You can establish a charitable remainder trust with cash, stocks, bonds, or real estate. The trust will pay you either a fixed amount (annuity trust) or a percentage of the trust income (unitrust). Upon termination of the trust, Denver Zoo will put the remaining trust principal into the endowment to support zoo programs.

Income payments are fixed and determined when the gift is made, which is attractive to individuals who wish to avoid risk.

Income fluctuates annually with the fair market value of the trust.
Benefits
- You will receive income for life or for a specified term of years
- If you make your gift with low-yielding securities or other assets, you may actually increase your current income
- If you make your gift with appreciated securities or other assets, you will avoid immediate capital gains taxes on the sale of these assets
- You will receive an immediate income tax charitable deduction for a portion of the value of your gift
- You may reduce your estate tax
- The remainder of your gift will go into the zoo’s endowment to support zoo programs and is currently matched dollar for dollar by Zoo Improvement Bond Funds, thereby effectively doubling your gift
