Come learn the art of photography from the experts at Mike’s Camera. This two-day photography workshop will focus on exploring exposure values to achieve more pleasing photographs and painting with light for creative control and just plain having fun. This workshop is brought to you by Denver Zoo and Mike’s Camera and features an evening lecture followed by an exclusive opportunity to photograph animals up-close at Denver Zoo, and then enjoy a walkabout to capture the beautiful Zoo Lights.

The Wednesday, December 5 workshop from 6 – 8 p.m. will be held at Mike’s Camera in Denver on Colorado Blvd. You will start off with a lecture on Exposure Value, and Painting with light techniques. You’ll learn how to photograph Zoo Lights utilizing the various combinations of ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture to manipulate your exposure and capture truly brilliant photographs just in time for the Holidays!

On Tuesday, December 11 from 5 – 8 p.m. Mike’s Camera experts Mike Dobson and Brian Rabin will lead the walk and be available to answer any technical questions you may encounter. This will be your chance to capture the magic of Zoo Lights with new level of skill and creativity!

What to Bring on the Photo Safari

Camera(s) with extra memory cards

  • Shutter release cable, or self-timer capable camera
  • Tripod
  • Flashlight/headlamp
  • Camera bag or plastic bags (to put your camera into for warmer indoor temperatures to prevent fogging)
  • Extra memory cards or film
  • Variety of lenses from macro to zoom
  • Flash and/or external flash
  • Off-camera flash cord
  • WARM CLOTHES, GLOVES and BOOTS!

About the Instructors:

Brian Rabin is a certified photographic consultant and sales person at Mike’s Camera in Boulder. Brian is a seasoned photographer and a lead instructor at Mike's Camera. He is well known for his enthusiasm and passionate instruction style and brings over 20 years of experience in various photographic disciplines including event photography, portraiture, macro and street photography. His work has appeared in one-man shows, group exhibits and has been published in national and local magazines.

Mike Dobson is the operations manager at Mikes Camera. Mike is an experienced photographer and has a vast knowledge from the camera to the photo lab process to achieving great output from a variety of image sources. He has photographed around the world while working on Princess and Norwegian Cruise lines and was the lead cruise ship photographer. In addition, Mike is an educator, a wedding photographer and a published photographer. Mike enjoys photographing his kids as well as macro and sports photography.

Mike’s Camera will provide each participant with a 16x20-inch coupon code to print any image you choose from your Photo Safari Workshop.

Photo Safari workshops are limited to 26 photographers, 12 years and older. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult 18 years or older.

$85 per person and includes instruction, a photography adventure like no-other! Mike’s Camera is proud to donate 50% of proceeds from this workshop to the Denver Zoological Foundation.
