Denver Zoo is excited to announce a special offer for veterans and their families on November 11 and 12, 2012. This program was initiated by a Denver Zoo Docent Volunteer, a World War II Veteran himself, to honor and support a new generation of veterans and their families. Registration is required for the 90-minute, guided tours. They are designed to engage families of veterans in a fun-filled day together exploring Denver Zoo’s public areas and are included with admission to the zoo. Veterans, with a valid ID or proof of service, will receive free admission to the zoo on these two days. Families of veterans will receive a discounted admission of $6.00 per person and children 2 and under are free.
Tour times on both days are 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. To register, please call 720-337-1491 and provide the following information to our Logistics Specialist. Registration deadline is by noon on Saturday, November 10:
- Contact name
- Contact phone number
- Date of visit (Sunday, 11/11 or Monday, 11/12)
- Preferred time of tour (10:30am, 1:00pm, or 2:30pm)
- Number in immediate family for the tour
- Ages of children participating in the tour
Please arrive at the zoo at least 30 minutes prior to the tour start time to ensure time to locate parking in our free garage or surface lots.
Present the veteran’s ID and confirmation paperwork inside the Guest Relations Building on the right side of the entrance plaza to purchase reduced-price admission tickets.
After entering the zoo check in at the table located under the thatched umbrella in front of the lion yard just inside the zoo. Look for the U.S. flag – this is where you’ll meet your volunteer tour guide.
Cameras are encouraged! Veterans are encouraged, but not required, to wear their uniform. Denver Zoo’s concessions and attractions are not included in this price but will be open so please plan accordingly. You are also welcome to bring food and drinks to the zoo (no glass please).
The volunteer tour guides want to tailor these experiences to your family’s needs. Please let us know if there’s a favorite animal you want to see or area you would rather not go into. They will do their best to accommodate your requests. Remember these tours only visit public areas and are not behind-the-scenes.
