College Internship Program:

Denver Zoo’s College Internship Program allows students to utilize their classroom knowledge in a real work setting.  Denver Zoo’s staff is committed to teaching and guiding our interns by helping to improve their skills and giving students valuable firsthand experience.  

We offer both paid and unpaid internships throughout the year.  Summer internships generally begin in May and conclude in August (exact start and end dates depend on the candidates’ school schedule).   We offer internships in Animal Care, Behavior Programs, Horticulture and Marketing as they become available.  Paid internships are funded through the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District.  

Applicant qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in college.
  • Recent college graduates (within the last two years) may apply for an internship.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Candidates must provide proof of current negative TB test.
  • Animal Care applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Additional internship information:

  • Interns earn $9.50 an hour for paid internships.
  • Interns may work 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. 
  • Housing is not provided.  
  • Letters of recommendation may be submitted, but are not required.
  • Paid and unpaid internship opportunities will be posted as positions become available.

  • This is a very competitive program, not all those who apply will be selected for an interview.
