Denver Zoo Field Trip
Education Programs at Denver Zoo

Unit-aligned programs that immerse your students in the animals, ecosystems and culture of Toyota Elephant Passage, during your field trip at Denver Zoo.

 "Habitats" Guided Tour

Explore the zoo with friendly, knowledgeable and experienced docents as you compare and contrast Toyota Elephant Passage with other zoo exhibits, all supporting the curriculum topics of the Toyota Elephant Passage Discovery Units. These active programs, aligned with Colorado Academic Standards, take place both inside Toyota Elephant Passage and in other areas of the zoo.  

In this Guided Tour: Explore how living things depend on their habitat to survive.  This program has been intentionally created to support the 2nd Grade Habitats are Homes Field Trip Discovery Units.

Who:
Minimum of 10 students, maximum 2 adults per tour group (cap of 100 participants per day)
When: Available Mon-Fri, September-April. Tour is 90 minutes for grades 1-3.
Cost: $6/student; Smaller groups will be charged for a minimum of 15 students

Although these additional classes are not currently aligned specifically with the Toyota Elephant Passage Field Trip Discovery Units, we offer a wide variety of programming matching this unit’s general theme.  Below are the programs that we recommend for the 2nd grade Habitats are Homes Field Trip Discovery Unit. Who: Up to 30 participants
When: Available Mon-Fri, September 17-May 17, 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon (max of three classes per day)
Cost: $7/student; Smaller groups will be charged for a minimum of 15 students

 Bunk with the Beasts Overnight Adventures at Denver Zoo

Bunk with the Beasts is an overnight learning adventure at Denver Zoo, designed to encourage bonding time, shared projects and special zoo experiences to create memories that will last a lifetime.  Although this program is not currently aligned specifically with the Toyota Elephant Passage Field Trip Discovery Units, it explores topics matching this unit’s general theme.  Below are the Bunk programs that we recommend for this Field Trip Discovery Unit.   • Rainforest Wonders

Who: Up to 100 participants
When: Available September -May, 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. Visit our website or email us at bunkwiththebeasts@denverzoo.org for a custom date to work with your schedule.
Cost:$49/student; 1 chaperone per 10 students FREE.  Additional chaperones $39.

Outreach Programs at Your School

Classes, assemblies or after-school programs to support your classroom learning either before or after your field trip experience. Programs feature up-close experiences with live animals, "biofact" animal specimens and directed instruction from expert zoo educators and volunteers.

Although Outreach programs are not currently aligned specifically with the Toyota Elephant Passage Field Trip Discovery Units, we offer a wide variety of programming matching this unit’s general theme.  Below are the programs that we recommend for the 2nd grade Habitats are Homes Field Trip Discovery Unit. Important Things to Know for All Extension Learning Opportunities:

  • Please register at least two weeks in advance (requested dates are guaranteed only upon confirmation by Denver Zoo).
  • Bilingual programs may be available upon request.
  • Scholarships are available through Denver Zoo's Red Apple Fund.
  • For Outreach Programs, travel fees apply outside of SCFD, and layover fees apply to breaks exceeding 60 minutes between programs.
