Colorado Corridors Project
Saturday, July 23
Monday, August 8
Wednesday, September 7

Help collect important wildlife data in Colorado’s high country. Participants will help gather valuable information on wildlife — including the imperiled Canada lynx — in the critical wildlife movement corridor around Shrine Pass (near Vail). This area will form the southern approach to the proposed wildlife overpass crossing over Interstate 70 on Vail Pass; camera monitoring will be conducted on Shrine Pass to help assess the impacts of the overpass crossing before and after construction. You’ll learn about the importance of wildlife corridors while performing activities such as camera trap photo collection, track and scat identification, or habitat observations. Data gathered by citizen scientists will help Denver Zoo, Center for Native Ecosystems and others learn more about what needs to be done to protect and restore corridors for lynx and other wildlife species in Colorado.

Trips will be led by staff from Denver Zoo and the Center for Native Ecosystems. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. on each of the dates at the Vail Pass rest area at exit 190 off Interstate 70. Trips will conclude around 2 p.m. and are limited to 15 people. All participants must be in good physical condition, able to walk or hike on varied terrain at high elevations, willing to follow data collection protocols, and have transportation to and from the field site.
