Q: How old do children have to be to come to the zoo by themselves?
A: Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a person 16 years or older.
Q: Where are your restrooms located?
A: We have restrooms at the Main Gate, Gates Education Center, Congo Basin, Bird World, Tropical Discovery, Giraffes, and in the Feline buildings. See our map for locations. Full-service restroom facilities that accommodate the physically challenged are available in Tropical Discovery, Primate Panorama and the Gates Center. Baby changing stations are available at all locations.
Q: Do you have any family restrooms or a place for nursing?
A: Yes, family restrooms are available at the Main Gate and are private for nursing. We also have a family baby changing area at the restrooms located in Primate Panorama.
Q: Can I smoke anywhere in the zoo?
A: No, but if you exit the Main Gate and get your hand stamped you may smoke in the designated smoking area and re-enter the Zoo.
Q: Can we bring our own picnic to the zoo?
A: Yes, there are picnic areas in Giraffe Meadows, across from Ice Cream Station Zebra, and tables in Conoco Gardens. We just ask that you do not bring straws, alcohol, or glass containers. Why no straws? For the safety of our animals we do not allow straws on zoo grounds. Straws can often look, smell and tasted like food, but tend to get stuck in the animals’ throats and stomachs.
Q: Where do I park and is there a fee?
A: You may park in any of the parking lots adjacent to the zoo or our 4 level parking garage. All of our parking is free.
Q: Are there any places to buy a meal?

A: We have 8 free days annually. They are listed at the top right hand side of this page.

A: No, the Main Entrance is now the only gate in operation.
Q: Do you have lockers to rent out?
A: We have baskets for storage that can be rented out for $3 each.
Q: Do you have wheelchairs and strollers for rent?
A: Yes, we have push wheelchairs for $4/day and motorized wheelchairs for $25/day (must be 18 years of age to operate; no reservations can be made, it is first come first served). Strollers are $4/day. Wagons are $6/day.
Q: Do you allow heely shoes and skateboards?
A: No, for safety, self-propelled or motorized riding conveyances i.e. skates (wheels must be removed from heelies), skateboards, roller blades, scooters, cycles, big wheels, electric powered toys/riding toys, etc) are not allowed.
Q: Do you allow pets?
A: No, for safety, pets of any kind are not allowed on zoo grounds. Assistance animals are allowed with some restrictions. Please check in with security at the main gate if you plan on bringing a service animal to the zoo.
Q: Are there other items that are not allowed in the zoo?
A: Yes, for the safety of the animal collection, items such as balloons, confetti, flags, straws, boom boxes, loud toys, horns, laser pens, flashlights, stilts, etc., are not allowed. The zoo reserves the right to refuse any other items that animal staff advises may cause distress to the collection.
Q: Can we feed the animals?
A: No, visitors may not feed, tease, throw objects at or attempt to contact any of the animal collection including the free roaming animals; violation is subject to removal from zoo grounds and/or prosecution.
