Where does my gift go?

Your gift is received by the Denver Zoological Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation, for the benefit of Denver Zoo. Each gift is receipted and placed into a gift fund consistent with the donor’s intent for how the gift is to be used. For more information, you may also wish to visit our GuideStar profile.

How will my gift be used?

Denver Zoological Foundation is fully committed to honoring the intent of every gift from every donor. A contribution to any of the Wild About… campaigns featured on this site will directly benefit that campaign’s stated purpose, even if the campaign doesn’t reach its goal. Depending upon the campaign, your gift may benefit a specific program/project or provide general, unrestricted support to Denver Zoological Foundation.

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes, to the fullest extent allowed by law. You will be mailed a charitable gift receipt. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

What is your federal tax ID number?

Denver Zoological Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. Federal tax ID 84-0502539.

How can my business support Denver Zoo?

Denver Zoo welcomes the support of businesses and other organizations, large and small. Whether it’s joining Denver Zoo as a Corporate Member or becoming a Corporate Partner, our Corporate Partnerships Team (listed above) can assist you in meeting your goals and objectives while increasing your profile with our 2 million-plus annual visitors. Does the Zoo qualify to receive corporate matching gifts?

Yes! You may be able to make your gift go twice as far! Many corporations and corporate foundations match gifts made by an employee and/or their spouse. Please check with your human resources or community relations department to see if your employer will match your gift to Denver Zoo.

What is Wild About…?

Wild About… is Denver Zoo’s online giving platform that enables us to share stories about the more than 4,000 magnificent animals that call Denver Zoo home, as well as showcase the incredible work of our zookeepers, veterinarians, conservation field scientists, science educators, 600+ volunteers, and other dedicated professionals that help to make Denver Zoo one of the preeminent Zoos in the United States.

What if a Wild About… campaign does not meet its stated fundraising goal?

We make every effort to engage donors in ways to achieve the goal you see for each online campaign. The purpose of each campaign is to enable donors to support animals, programs, and other projects that they are Wild About… – and to provide flexible philanthropic resources to support the mission of Denver Zoo.

Will there be updates regarding Wild About… campaigns?

Yes. We will periodically update the donors to each campaign so that you can see firsthand the impact of your generous support.

How long will it take to process the campaign “reward” I selected when making my gift?

Reward fulfillment may vary for each reward and each campaign. Once the campaign is over, you will be contacted about the reward you selected (if applicable), including how/when your reward will be fulfilled.

What are other ways to give to Denver Zoological Foundation?

Denver Zoological Foundation accepts a variety of gifts, types of gifts, and methods of giving to support the animals, program or project of one’s choosing.

Methods of Giving
One-Time Gifts – Make a gift today, online, by phone with a credit card, by mail, or in person at Denver Zoo, 2300 Steele Street, Denver, CO 80205 (Attn: Development Office). Please make funds payable to Denver Zoological Foundation or click here.

Recurring Gifts – You can sustain your gift through a secure, recurring credit card payment or electronic funds transfer (EFT), in a frequency of your choosing (e.g., monthly, quarterly). To make a recurring gift, click here.

Pledges – Gifts may be fulfilled through a written pledge, over a period not to exceed five (5) years.

Corporate and Foundation Partnerships – Denver Zoo offers myriad partnership and sponsorship opportunities for corporations and foundations to demonstrate their commitment to a treasured cultural and scientific asset while helping to secure a better world for animals through human understanding. What to Give
Cash – Cash gifts offer an immediate tax deduction for the full amount the year the gift is made. Cash gifts can be made by check, credit card, or electronic funds transfer (EFT). Please make funds payable to Denver Zoological Foundation or click here. Please contact the Development Office for EFT information.

Securities – Gifts of appreciated stock, mutual funds, or other securities may help the donor make a more tax-wise gift and avoid capital gains taxes while providing invaluable support to Denver Zoo. To transfer stock electronically, please contact the Development Office.

IRA Rollover – Federal law allows individuals who are 70 ½ or older to make cash gifts of up to $100,000 from traditional or Roth IRAs while avoiding the taxation that would ordinarily occur. This is especially good news for those who do not itemize their taxes or who are giving at 50% of their AGI. Please note, these gifts qualify towards your required minimum distributions. Non-Monetary Gifts-in-Kind – Gifts of equipment, goods, and services are invaluable to Denver Zoo. Our Corporate Partnerships Team can assist you or your organization with making such gifts. Click here for more information.

Gifts of Real Property – Denver Zoological Foundation accepts gifts of real property (e.g., homes, ranches, farms, undeveloped land, works of art, etc.) in furtherance of its charitable mission. For more information about donating a gift of real property, please contact the Development Office.

Gift Designations
Gifts for Current Use – Current use gifts are put to use and utilized to support the Zoo’s priorities and programs; these gifts can benefit the Zoo’s greatest needs or be designated per the donor’s wishes.

Gifts for Endowment – Unlike current use gifts, gifts for endowment are invested, with the principal maintained over time, generating a cash distribution in perpetuity which is used to support the Zoo’s operations or for a designated purpose per the donor’s wishes.

Honorary and Memorial Gifts
You may honor or memorialize a special individual with any gift to Denver Zoological Foundation. In addition, honorary and memorial naming opportunities are available throughout the Zoo, including on benches, carousel animals, gardens, sculptures, train seats and cars, and elsewhere. Whether through a bequest in your will, as a designated beneficiary in a qualified retirement plan (e.g., 401k, 403b, or IRA) or insurance policy, a charitable gift annuity, or a charitable trust, Denver Zoological Foundation accepts an array of planned gifts. Can I support the Zoo through other giving programs like United Way, Colorado Gives Day, or AmazonSmile?
